One of my secret weapons is Milton Sterilising Fluid, the stuff you use to sterilise baby’s bottles. It costs less than £2 for a litre in high street chemists or supermarkets, a capful will do an entire laundry load and unlike specific sports detergent, you can’t use it to sterilise your Camelbak, water bottles or yoga mats.

Some technical clothing really hangs on to the smell of sweat, even after washing with regular detergent. Milton Sterilising Fluid shifts that like nothing else, leaving behind a faint chlorine odor – put the Milton-cleansed clothes in for a normal wash to get rid of this and then enjoy sparkly clean gear.
